Before He Was a Struggling Man, He Was a Young Boy
The Early Seeds of Silence
From a young age, boys are often taught to suppress their feelings. “Don’t cry,” “man up,” or “be strong” are phrases many boys hear, and these messages become their mental blueprint. Instead of learning to name emotions or seek help, they learn early that silence is expected. By the time they enter adolescence, this pattern is ingrained. The seeds of silence are planted, and boys learn to mask their vulnerability long before anyone notices.

The Invisible Weight Boys Carry
As boys grow into teens, the weight of this silence becomes heavier. I know this firsthand as I carried my own mental health struggles, yet no one would have known. Like many men, I believed the stigma that we should just “get on with it.” Boys carry invisible burdens with fears they can’t voice, emotions they bury. Without guidance, these boys grow into men who still hide pain behind a stoic front.
Guiding Boys, Building Men
But this cycle can be broken. When we start early - teaching boys that strength includes emotional honesty - we shape healthier futures. Boys who are heard, guided, and valued become men who can speak, heal, and thrive. By guiding boys today, we build men who don’t have to hide tomorrow. This post is not just about acknowledging the problem; it’s about starting change - today.
